Camp Brochure Redesign

The team at High Adventure Summer Day Camp needs to redesign their summer camp brochure so that they can attract more kids and families to join their camp.

Their original design was a bit too crowded for kids to understand and look at. A redesign for the brochure is needed to attract the eye of a child and grab their attention with colors and fun icons.

My role in the redesign for High Adventure Summer Day Camp was to redesign their brochure. I had the opportunity to rethink their typography as well as color and structure. Through the process I was able to do lots of research and find out which visual design aspects would benefit the company and how to achieve that specific goal.

Design Process

Research

For the research process, I made sure I understood the audience for the product as well as what other camp brochures looked like. I researched what catches the eye of a younger audience and took notes on what colors made sense for summer camp. I also sketched out type placements and design ideas.

Sketches

I created sketches of where the information would be laid out and what different design tools I would be adding.

Color & Type Studies

I played with different colors and typefaces to figure out what looked best for a camp brochure. I needed to make sure the typeface made sense for what I was designing. The colors also needed to make the aesthetic of a camp brochure.

Compositions

3 different compositions were created with different colors and structures. Each had a different design and did not look similar, but all matched the theme. After getting feedback, I continued to move forward on a design and make improvements.

Comp 1

Finalize Design

After choosing the design that was better than the others, I finalized the design by fixing type issues and creating perfect hierarchy and structure. I also added icons and final touches.

Comp 3

Using photography created inconsistency and forced the color scheme and theme to be off. Using icons and clean formats is easier for children to read for and it's accessible for the parents. The redesign will attract the eye in a cleaner and more sufficient way. In one of the compositions, image were added to the brochure and I found that the images didn’t look the best or as clean as using my own designs and icons.

Impact

High Adventure Summer Day Camps redesign has shown me how to put myself in a different perspective as a designer. I had to design this brochure in the eyes of a parent and a child. This allowed my creativity to go to many places as I researched and designed. I learned more about the importance of hierarchy and typography as well.
